Sampla launches free insurance cover for girl students

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla today launched here the programme of free insurance cover of Rs two lakh each for 350 girl students of Phagwara and Begowal educational institutions.
The programme was undertaken under 'Pardhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna' as a gift on Raksha Bandhan festival, the minister informed.
Sampla declared that total 1,200 girls will be brought under this insurance cover in his Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency.
He said that every year on Raksha Bandhan festival, as many as 1,100 girls would be brought under this free insurance cover.
Underlining the role of women in eradication of social evils, Sampla said that change in societal mindset, rather than stringent laws would eradicate and curb social evils, including crimes against women.
He informed that any girl could avail of this PM's scheme by depositing just Rs 12 annual premium for being covered under Rs 2 lakh insurance.
