Padma awardee sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik today created a sand sculpture appealing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider the name of legendary Biju Patnaik for the Bharat Ratna award.
While highlighting the name of Odisha's former Chief Minister and freedom fighter Biju Patnaik, Sudarshan created the sand art with a message 'Bharat Ratna for Biju Patnaik' at Puri beach.
Pattnaik created the 5ft high sand sculpture of Biju Patnaik with the symbol of Bharat Ratna by using about seven tonnes of sand.
"My humble appeal to consider Late Biju Patnaik for the Bharat Ratna award for 2014 is based on his historic contribution during India's freedom struggle and early Independence-era," Pattnaik said.
