The International Sand Art Competition will be held at the southern Spanish coastal city of Marbella next week and 10 sand artists from around the world will start descending on the tourist hot spot later this week.

Pattnaik had in May returned victorious from Denmark where his sand sculpture of a mermaid pleading for human effort to save the oceans was declared the winner.

The competition in Spain, starting from July 9, will be a seven-day affair, where artists have been asked to make sand sculptors on the theme 'Secrets of the Sea'.

"This will be my second appearance in Spain. Six years back when I participated in Spain, I had won the second prize," Pattnaik told PTI.

The Puri-based artist who leaves on Friday for Marbella will draw an awareness sculpture revolving around the creatures of the sea.

"There are so many species living in the oceans of which people know very little. I will draw a sand sculpture for awareness," he said.
