Police today said that the sand mafia was behind the killing of the revenue inspector here and announced that one person has been arrested in this connection.
The claim by police came even as they said that a clean chit has been given to the eight persons who were earlier named in an FIR lodged by the victim's family.
SP (City) Pradeep Gupta today said that a trio identified as Mohit, Manish and Rohit were involved in the murder of 55-year-old Pramod Sharma on November 3, adding that Mohit has been arrested while the two others are absconding.
The accused killed Sharma as he had taken action against them for alleged illegal sand mining, Gupta said.
Revenue inspector Sharma was shot dead while returning home on his motorcycle near Mojpur village under Sikheda police station here.
