The two rivals had split the first two games and Sandhu, who won a team gold in the Asian Games in Incheon, was leading 6-1 in the third when his French opponent suffered an injury and retired, to allow a smooth passage for the winner of the Jaipur first leg into the last eight.
"I was not there in the first game at all. This is the first game I've played after Jaipur and the courts are quite different. But I think I moved him well all around the court in the third game and unfortunately, when he lunged, he hurt his hamstring," said 83-ranked Sandhu, who was leading 6-11, 11-6, 6-1 when his opponent retired hurt.
In the WSA Tour 5 event held concurrently, Pakistan's Sammer Anjum defeated Nikita Joshi of India to enter the quarterfinals. Two other Indian women - Urwashi Joshi and Aishwarya Bhattacharya - also made their exits.
