Sandhu in last eight, upset victory for Velvan

Coming straight from Incheon, Asian Games gold winner Harinder Pal Sandhu beat Gaurav Nandrajog 3-2 in a hard fought battle to make it to the quarterfinals of the JSW Challenger Circuit squash tournament here today.
Sandhu beat Nandrajog 9-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-9, and 11-4 to book a place in the last eight stage on the opening day at the Jaipur Club courts here.
16-year-old Indian Velavan Senthilkumar posted a facile victory against seventh seeded France's Arthur Moineau 3-0. Velavan had little difficulty in cruising to a 11-7,11-9,11-6 victory over his French opponent.
Top seed Mahesh Mangaonkar along with other seeded players advanced to the last eight stage.
Mahesh Mangaonkar beat local lad Indian Vijay Kumar Meena in straight games 3-0 (11-2, 11-8, and 11-1).
Sixth seed, Adam Murrills of England beat qualifier Pakistan's Muhammed Asim Khan 3-2 (12-10, 10-12, 11-3, 9-11, 11-5) in a marathon match, lasting 65 minutes.
In the women's section, Sadia Gul of Pakistan beat local girl Ritika Malhotra 11-4, 11-1, 11-4, Urvashi Joshi beat Janet Vidhi 11-4, 11-8, 11-5 while Sunayna Kuruvilla defeated Nikita Joshi 3-0 (12-10,11-9,11-9) to book quarter final berths.
