Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today directed the state administration and health department to take necessary steps in controlling the spread of Japanese Encephalitis (JE), which has claimed three lives in the western Garo Hills region recently.
Reviewing the scenario of his home district in South West Garo Hills, the Chief Minister asked the district administration and the department concerned to control the spread of JE.
Expressing concerns, Sangma summoned senior health officials to the Garo Hills to ensure that JE was controlled on time to save lives.
"The Chief Minister has directed the health department officials to Ampati where JE outbreak was reported to take stock of the situation," a special officer attached with Sangma said.
Last week JE had claimed three lives including a BSF jawan at Ampati in South West Garo Hills district, the home constituency of the Chief Minister.
Expressing concern at the outbreak of JE, district Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh said the administration has already upped the ante and ways and means were in place to control the disease.
