"There have been talks and there have been certain decisions arrived at," Leader of Opposition Conrad K Sangma said on the party's possible pre-poll alliance with the BJP.
Without elaborating, he said, "There is soft understanding with like-minded parties whom we think we can work."
Former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma formed NPP after resigning from NCP ahead of the Presidential poll last year and NCP in Meghalaya formally merged with NPP in August last year.
P A Sangma launched the NPP at the "national level" in New Delhi on January 5 and decided to join the BJP-led NDA.
Conrad, son of the former Lok Sabha Speaker, told reporters that the party was confident to win majority of the 40 seats it would contest.
Erstwhile NCP had won 15 out of 50 constituencies they had contested in 2008, majority of which were in the Garo Hills region of the state.
