The 36-ear-old "Love Song" singer has been tapped by bosses at US network Nickelodeon, the producers of the project, to join the star-studded line-up of musicians penning tunes for the musical adaptation of hit children's cartoon series, reported Broadway World.
In addition to Bareilles, other artists said to be providing new tracks for the stage production include Kinky Boots composer Cyndi Lauper, the late David Bowie, John Legend, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Lady Antebellum, Panic! At the Disco, T.I., and Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, among others.
"Next to Normal" composer Tom Kitt will serve as music supervisor for the show, which producers have described as "a rousing tale of a simple sea sponge who faces the unfathomable. It's a celebration of unbridled hope, unexpected heroes, and pure theatrical invention."
Meanwhile, Bareilles is currently gearing up for her own Broadway debut as the composer and lyricist of the musical adaptation of 2007 movie "Waitress".
