Sarpanch booked for vandalism at police station
Press Trust of India Batala (Pb) The sarpanch of Umarwal village and his five associates have been booked for alleged vandalism and beating up two policemen and tearing their uniforms at the Qilla La Singh police station, following which the SHO has been suspended.
Nishan Singh, Sarpanch of Umarwal village and five others went to the police station on Thursday night after one of his associates was rounded up, police said.
Following an altercation, Singh and his associates resorted to vandalism and beat up two police personnel and tore their uniforms last night, they said.
A case was registered against the Sarpanch and his associates and one of them identified as Amandeep Singh has been arrested today, they said.
SHO of the Qilla La Singh police station, Avtar Singh, has been suspended and sent to police lines for dereliction of duty on the orders of Senior Superintendent of Police Batala, Harpreet Singh, police added.
