Dubbing 'Obhisopto Knighty' anything but titillating, 'Gangs of Ghost' actor Pramabrata Chatterjee says, "It is a satire on the idiosyncrasies about sex."
"It is a funny comment, it is a non-preachy kind of cinema bearing friend-director Birsa (Dasgupta)'s trademark style," the actor-director Pramabrata told PTI on the eve of the film's release.
Asked if the film has references to male libido, Param said, "Yes you can say that. But doesn't titillate."
"We had grown up watching nighty hanging from veradanhs and 'boudis' (as married Bengali women are referred respectfully by Bengalees) frequenting the next door grocers shop in the morning clad in nighty."
"It is basically a fun film, a whacky film, where nighty comes as a metaphor. It goes back to the 1980s era highlighting the 'poshak mannerism' (dress) of the homemaker city women. It is retro in look but it is again very very contemporary. It perhaps makes fun the way we look at things," the aesthetically-inclined desert brigand in Mishawr Rawhoshyo said.
Birsha, the maker of highly acclaimed 033 having screened in various festivals, said, "Nighty is a mirror of society in my film."

"It is a layered film and it is humorous but whacky. And yes there are apparent sexual connotations," the young, intrepid director said.
"The idea came off during all those endless adda sessions. And yes we are making nighty due to budget constraints, otherwise I could have perhaps invoke an alien for an Independence Day," Birsa said tongue-in-cheek to a question why Knighty off all things and why it was cursed.
Birsa, who admitted not being a prolific speaker, said he was more at ease behind camera to a question how he fared so well with such an ensemble cast of all known names from Indraneil, Parambrata, to Paoli Dam and Tanusree and even funnyman Mir.
"I found the theme very haunting. A film on nighty and I initially thought why such a name. But it is a comedy and satire and there is no voyeurism," The Hate Story actor Paoli Dam said.
"My character is intriguingly called Apsara in the film and she falls in the trap of the women's wear. Different directors choose different subjects and if it is a comedy there are satirical elements in that," popular Bengali actor Tanusree Chakraborty said.
Obhisopto Knighty, produced by Shri Vnkatesh Films, will be released on February 14, on the Velentine's Day, but Birsa will not tag this as an entertainer talking about love.
