Over 100 volunteers of the city-based 86-year old missionary hospital, including doctors and nurses, were seen participating in the cleanliness exercise today.
With cleaning equipment such as brooms, garbage bags, gloves and face masks, the volunteers cleaned the streets of the entire Satribari stretch.
Through this initiative the healthcare brand also aimed to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of sanitation workers who make efforts to ensure a clean neighborhood for the citizens, Hospital sources said.
Satribari Christian hospital CEO Manesh Mathew, who also participated in the drive said, "A significant amount of diseases could be prevented through better access to sanitation facilities and improved hygiene".
"This is our humble step in this direction and we are hopeful of taking this initiative forward", Mathew said.
Established in 1926, Satribari Christian hospital is one of the oldest hospitals of the region under the partnership of the Council of Baptist Churches of North East India (CBCNEI), the sources said.
Bhabesh Baruah, one of the volunteers and a student of a local commerce college said, "The entire Satribari stretch comprises of a school, college and hospital. Despite constant movement of students and patients, no concrete measure was taken to clear the filth in the area. We are grateful to the Hospital for taking such a firm step in this direction".
