The princess had called on Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar in Parliament Library Building today.
Welcoming the Saudi Princess on her maiden visit to India, Kumar said that India and Saudi Arabia share a historical relationship, which is reflective of the deep cultural and religious bond that mark their engagement, a statement released by her office said.
Kumar recalled that high-level visits, especially by King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia to India in 2006 and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Saudi Arabia in 2010, have consolidated the relationship.
Kumar pointed out that a large number of Indians are working in Saudi Arabia, who are contributing to the development of Saudi Arabia and India.
The Lok Sabha Speaker also said that India and Saudi Arabia have shown remarkable harmony at various international fora and complimented Saudi Arabia for the excellent arrangements they make during the Haj Pilgrimage.
Kumar said that Haj Pilgrims, especially from India, are looked after well by the Saudi authorities. The Saudi Princess thanked Meira Kumar for the warm hospitality extended to her and also invited the Speaker to visit Saudi Arabia.
She also called for greater cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of education, heritage and culture, the statement said.
