"We will hold a concert at the National University of Juridical Sciences campus on November 20 where Sidhu and his Cactus band and popular tv anchor and RJ Mir and his band, Bandage, will perform for the children hailing from areas like Beniapaukur, Park Circus, Tiljala, Raja Bazar," a Save The Children spokesperson said.

"Children from elite schools have a lot more exposure to rock concerts but not the disadvantaged kids from mixed pockets. This is part of our initiative to introduce them with the good things of life," she said.

Several of these children were also taken around the city in a joyride in a tram today. An ac metro ride from one terminal station to another on November 18 and a fundraising football match between Mohun Bagan and Kolkata Police were also lined up.

"We have picked up Sidhu as our cause champion here since he is an emerging youth icon and can easily mingle with the children. He is very down-to-earth yet contemporary in style, one with whom these youngsters can identify," state programme manager of Save The Children Jatin Mondar said.

"This is a very noble initiative. I feel privileged to be among these children. They are so innocent and full of life. Must do something to show them a better way of living," Sidhu said.

"With Diwali just having passed, will be happy if child labour ceases to exist in all hazardous and non- hazardous industry, including firecracker units," Sidhu said.
