SBI Officers association AGM from tomorrow
Press Trust of India Coimbatore Delay in the negotiation of bipartite wage settlement and the "adamant attitude" of Indian Bankers Association and the Government, regulated working hours and five day a week, will be discussed and deliberated during the two-day Silver Jubilee Triennial general Body meeting of State Bank of India Officers' Association beginning here from tomorrow.
Giving details of the meeting, D Thomas Franco Rajendra Dev, General Secretary, SBIOA, Chennai Circle, told reporters here that the business session, to be held on November 16, will deliberate the issues confronting the labourmovement especiallyin view of the suggested amendments to labour laws, disinvesting up to 48 per cent in PSUs and threat to Trade Union Rights.
The delay in the negotiation of bipartite settlement by IBA, for which the Bank employees had gone on strike and also carried out talks 16 times, would also be taken up at the session, Franco said.
When asked about the mismatch and logic behind seeking reduced working days and higher salary, he said the wage was revised every five years and the association was demanding to increase it for the last three years.
Claiming that for the last one year there was 20 per cent attrition from SBI, he said due to higher salary in other sector, including Government jobs, new recruits were not willing to continue in Banks.
P S Prakash Rao, Chief General Manager, SBI, Chennai Circle will inaugurate the conference, in which S Gurumurthy, Corporate advisor and commentator on economic and political affairs, will deliver key note address and nearly 2,000 delegates from Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry will participate, he said.
