The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation today said that the State Bank of India would collect the transport undertaking's daily earnings directly from 250 bus depots across the state.

State Transport Minister Diwakar Raote, speaking at the 284th meeting of the MSRTC, said that this new collection mechanism would ensure safety and also save the undertaking Rs 13 crore annually in money-transport costs which included expenditure on special vehicles and security personnel.

He informed that the State Bank of India would now collect money from all 250 depots across the state.

The minister said that daily earnings from ticket sales and other avenues at the undertaking's 250 depots statewide was in the region of Rs 15 crore and the current practice was to send it to nationalised banks by road.

"It is risky from the point of view of security. We had asked police for escorts but it refused citing lack of personnel," Raote said.

The move, officials said, comes after Rs 15 lakh, being transported from one of its depots in Solapur to a nationalised bank, was looted enroute recently.
