Describing the Supreme Court ruling on Arunachal Pradesh as a 'fitting lesson' for the BJP-led Union government, DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi today said his party was very happy about the verdict as it would nourish democracy.
The Supreme Court has taught a "fitting lesson," to the BJP-led Centre, he said and termed the installation of BJP propped Kalikho Pul government as a "retrograde move."
Stating that it had become a "routine for those ruling at the Centre" to prop up their own regimes in States ruled by rivals, he said "the apex court ruling is a major blow" for the BJP-led Centre after the big setback in Uttarkhand issue.
Describing the judgment as "an important milestone in Indian democracy which would nourish it (democracy)," he said his party was very happy about it.
He said DMK had consistently opposed "anti-democratic ouster of elected governments by using Article 356 of the Constitution."
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in Cuddalore District, senior Tamil Nadu BJP leader L Ganesan said the ruling has favoured a CM who had lost majority in the Assembly.
