Inaugurating the two-day conference of Judicial Officers of Himachal Pradesh on 'Striving for Excellence in Court Work and Conduct', Justice Lodha said the real experience of the people with judicial system in India is with lower judiciary, and therefore it plays a very crucial role.

He said in India about 90 per cent litigation is handled by the lower judiciary which makes it imperative for lower judicial officers to maintain the dignity and integrity of overall judiciary.

"The court is not an office, rather it is a temple of justice and a judge is above all and therefore, the judgeship is not an easy job," he said.

Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Kurian Joseph, who presided over the conference, said "This kind of conference is like a get together which brings the sense of family and helps us to have a better outlook."

Sharing his experiences with the participants, Justice R B Misra said he had served in many states but his experience in Himachal was unique and judicial system in the state had achieved excellence in all respects.

In his welcome address, justice Deepak Gupta said Himachal judicial system is the best in the country and the judgements are well written.

He said there were about two lakh cases pending in 109 courts in state and appealed to the judges to work hard to dispose off the pending cases.
