SC notice to Centre on PIL for uploading FIR within 24 hours

The Supreme Court today sought response from the Centre and the state governments on a PIL seeking uploading of FIR on police website within 24 hours.
A bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh issued notice to the Union government and all states on the plea of an Uttarakhand based organisation.
The PIL filed by Youth Bar Association of India seeks direction to upload every "FIR" lodged in all the police stations within the country on the official website of police stations within 24 hours from the time of lodging of FIR.
"FIR is a public document, however, to obtain a copy of FIR from the police is not an easy task for the general public. Therefore, if the FIR is put to websites it would be in the larger public interest and the same will also avoid many difficulties being faced by the general public...

"Issue an appropriate writ in nature of mandamus, an order or direction directing the respondents to upload each and every FIR lodged in all the police stations within the territory of India in the official website of the police of all states, as early as possible preferably within 24 hours from the time of lodging," the plea said.
