The Supreme Court today questioned the logic behind granting quota in promotions in government jobs to the kith and kin of affluent persons
Referring to the Mandal case, he said that Article 16 (4) (which provides power to state to grant quota) "made it clear that the question whether a backward class of citizens is not adequately represented in the services under the State is a matter within the subjective satisfaction of the State."
