SC refuses to stay New Supreme Court Rules-2013

The Supreme Court today did not pass any order on a plea to stay the implementation of the New Supreme Court Rules-2013 slated to come into force on August 19.
A bench of justices A R Dave and U U Lalit directed that the matter would be heard comprehensively on September 5, the next date of hearing, and asked the parties to exchange and submit all relevant materials.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has filed a petition alleging that the bar was not consulted on the new rules and has sought a direction to the Supreme Court for an "effective" and "meaningful" consultation with the association.

"Direct the respondent to have an effective and meaningful consultation with the petitioner association on the Supreme Court Rules-2013 and to consider and decide its representation," the plea said.
In the petition, the association alleged that by means of these rules, certain amendments have been inserted and substituted in the existing Supreme Court Rules, 1966, which are impinging the fundamental rights of the members of the SCBA.
"Pass an ex-parte ad-interim order staying the enforcement of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013 till the outcome of the present Writ Petition...," SCBA said in its petition.
Later, in the day, SCBA passed a resolution to call upon the Chief Justice of India and all judges of the Supreme Court not to bring "The Supreme Court Rules-2013" in force on August 19.
