Members of various scheduled caste and scheduled tribe organisations today held a protest here, demanding an immediate roll back of the new recruitment policy formulated by the Jammu and Kashmir government.
The members of the community under the banner of All India confederation of SC/ST and OBC orgnaisation staged a protest and termed the recruitment policy as an "attempt to deprive the reserved classes of their constitutionally guaranteed right of reservation in employment".
Flaying the new recruitment policy, R K Kalostra, State President of Confederation said, "We demand that the state government must either roll back the policy or implement the provisions of SC/ST/OBC reservation within the recruitment policy framework".
He said that if the government fails to address their "genuine grievances", they would be forced to "come on roads" and launch a statewide agitation.
"With the formation of new coalition government, the communities were hopeful of getting due benefit of the reservation but by bringing this recruitment policy, the government has deprived the reserved communities of their rights," he said.
"If the government does not take this new recruitment policy back or does not include provisions of reservation for us, we would be left with no other option but to come on roads and protest against this biased move of the government," he added.
The state cabinet, which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Sunday, accorded approval to the new "Contractual" recruitment policy to make appointment against gazetted and non-gazetted vacancies on contractual basis.
