The Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) had earlier lodged criminal cases against Kumar for allegedly using forged documents to level allegations that state's Director General of Police Reddy and his wife owned assets disproportionate to their income.

A bench of justices Deepak Verma and S J Mukhopadhya while staying the May 3 order of the state high court, issued notice to Kumar on a plea by the state government, challenging the high court's order in his favour.

A division bench of the high court earlier had stayed the order for probe passed by a single judge into the allegations made by DGP V Dinesh Reddy and senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Umesh Kumar against each other.

The division bench of justices G Chandraiah and N Ravi Shankar had stayed the single-judge bench order while admitting appeals by Reddy and CID Additional Director General S V Ramana Murthy. The bench had also stayed the contempt of court proceedings against the DGP.

The bench had also quashed charges against Umesh Kumar under section 468 of the IPC. (more)
