SCB Medical College prof. Arrested on sexual assault charges

A professor of SCB Medical College here was arrested today on charges of sexual harassment and assault on a female student belonging to Scheduled Caste.
"The anaesthesia department professor was arrested under relevant sections of IPC and the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act," said Inspector A K Swain of Mangalabag police station.
The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by the female PG student of the department.
She recorded her statement before a magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC and submitted an audio CD as proof of her charges, the officer said, adding there was prima facie evidence against the accused.

The wife of the professor, however, alleged her husband was being framed. "My husband is the victim of a conspiracy hatched by other faculty members of the department," she said.
