Schneider Electric to focus more on India market

Energy Management company Schneider Electric which is celebrating 50 years of operations in India today said it would be looking at new initiatives going forward as part of renewed commitment to India market.
"India is key market for Schneider Electric globally. Not only as a global manufacturing hub but also as an important R & D centre," Schneider Electric Deputy CEO in-charge of Finance and Legal affairs Emmanuel Babeau told reporters here.
He said: "As part of our focus on this market, we are already seeing a further addition of manufacturing facility reflected in the launch of an automation plant near Chennai."
To a question on investments into India without divulging any figures, Schneider Electric India MD and Country President Anil Chaudhry said: "....We will continue investing and expanding our pan India presence, increasing- our service, our partners in tier 2, tier 3, tier 4 cities...; we will continue expanding our retail outlets base in India...".
He said: "Investment in terms of manpower will continue with the growth of the business- from 1,500 people in 2005 we have now 19,000 people."
"As the business continues to grow we need manpower, we need human capital- we will continue working on that," he added.
Stating that Schneider has strong retail presence in North, South and West India, he said: "we are accelerating our investment in eastern region, more and more cities we want to be present in east- because that is where growth is happening faster than rest of the India...".
