Scholarship Scam: Suspended UP official arrested

Absconding former Uttar Pradesh district official was arrested and sent to jail in connection with her alleged involvement in a six-year-old scholarship scam, a police spokesman said here.
District Minority Welfare officer Suman Gautam, who was suspended soon after the scam surfaced, was yesterday produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sanjay Singh who sent her to judicial custody, they said.
Based on the complaint filed by present district minority welfare officer N N Pandey on December 28, 2015, a case was registered against the accused Suman Gautam and father-son duo Sharif Safi and Danish Safi respectively who head a Madrasa at Zakir colony in Meerut district.

As per the complaint, the departmental enquiry found misappropriation of scholarship funds amounting to 3.69 lakh rupees took place by the father-son duo during the tenure of the accused officer from 2007 to 2012.
Search is on to nab the other two accused in the case, said the police official.
