Hundreds of school children today staged a rally here to acquaint the denizens about the heritage of Srinagar city and the need for its preservation.
Organised by Civil Society, the rally attended by over 300 children from various schools was flagged off by social activist and renowned writer Zarief Ahmad Zarief at M P School Baghe Dilawar Khan in Babademb area of interior city.
The children, carrying placards to highlight the need for preservation of the heritage sites, marched in a procession through various localities, covering a distance of almost three kilometers.
During the march, the children who were accompanied by dozens of teachers walked past the historic places including Khankhah-e-Moula shrine and Budshah Tomb in Zainakadal before reaching Sheikh Mukhdoom Sahib shrine atop Koh-e-Marran hillock overlooking the city.
In his address before the flagging off ceremony, Zarief shed light on the Kashmiri heritage and asked the students to work tirelessly for preserving it for themselves and the coming generations.
"It is our treasure trove and it is our responsibility to preserve it for the future generations," he said and urged the people from all walks of life to come forward to fulfill their responsibility towards the society.
He asked the school children to know their history and educate others especially their elders.
The placards carried by the children read "Heritage walk to explore the historical importance of heritages in Shahre Khas", "save heritage" and "know your history".
