A school headmaster was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1,100 from a parent for admitting his son in the school, police said today.
The complainant had approached Santoshkumar Shankarlal Agrawal (54), the headmaster of the Paratwada-based Sunderbai Boys High School, on July 9 for getting admission for his son in class VII, Deputy Superintendent of Police, ACB, R N Ghule said.
The head master allegedly demanded Rs 2,100 from him and asked him to get pre-permission from Education Officer of Amravati, he said.
The complainant then approached the Education Officer and after seeking his permission on July 11, he returned to the headmaster for the admission.
However, the headmaster insisted on at least Rs 1,100 for the admission, sans any official receipt for the amount, Ghule said.
The complainant then approached the ACB, Amravati and lodged a complaint against the headmaster.
Subsequently, the ACB laid a trap in the school premises and caught the headmaster yesterday while he was accepting the bribe, he said.
Agrawal was arrested and an offence was registered against him under relevant sections of Prevention Corruption Act, he added.
