Amid increased concern over the quality outcome in schools, government is launching an initiative aimed at capacity building of principals and teachers for improving the learning outcome and student development.
The 'school leadership programme', to be launched by HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju tomorrow, seeks to transform schools to schools of excellence and bringing about an improvement in the entire school system through leadership development.
In all, the programme will cover 12 government schools across the country, a senior HRD Ministry official said.
A handbook has been prepared to support facilitators address diverse leadership needs of school heads in different locales and contexts.
The initiative has been launched by National University of Educational Planning and Administration.
It envisages a one-year engagement with follow-up provisions for review and feedback as an integral part of the programme.
A 'school performance standard' framework is also being developed for launch later this year, providing an added fillip to improve school standards, the official said.
