Scorching weather grips north India

Scorching weather continued its grip on the northern region with mercury soaring in most areas and the hottest temperature was recorded in Rajasthan's Barmer district at 47.2 degree Celsius.
The weatherman has predicted hot days ahead for Delhiites as the mercury is expected to inch up to 42 degree Celsius even as the maximum temperature in the national capital today settled at 40.6 degree Celsius and the minimum at 25.6 degree Celsius.
Searing heat wave swept across Rajasthan where the highest maximum temperature was recorded at 47.2 degree Celsius in Barmer district.
The Met department recorded maximum of 44.1 degree Celsius in Jaipur, while Jaisalmer sizzled at 46.6 degree Celsius, Jodhpur at 45.2 degree celsius and Udaipur recorded 42.8 degree Celsius.
Heat wave also gripped both Punjab and Haryana where the hottest place was Hisar with maximum temperature of 43.6 degree Celsius, followed by Narnaul at 42 degree Celsius.
The holy city of Amritsar in Punjab recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2 degree Celsius, while mercury in Union Territory of Chandigarh settled at 38.2 degree Celsius.

Among other places in north India, maximum temperatures in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla settled at 23.9 degree Celsius and in Dharamsala at 29 degree Celsius.
Jammu city recorded maximum temperature of 38.4 degree Celsius while Srinagar in Kashmir Valley recorded 28.1 degree Celsius, a notch above normal for this time of the year.
