Veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese will be honoured with the Carrosse d'Or, also known as Golden Coach award, at the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes.
The award is presented by SFR (the French Film Directors' Guild) and the 75-year-old director will receive the honour on May 9 during the opening ceremony of the festival sidebar.
"For its 50th anniversary, the French Film Directors' Guild is proud to celebrate an outstanding and inspiring filmmaker, Martin Scorsese," the SFR guild said in a statement.
Film "Mean Street", which Scorsese presented at the Directors' Fortnight back in 1974, will also be screened at the event. It will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker.
The Carrosse d'Or award has been presented since 2002 by the filmmakers of the SRF to honour one of their own during Directors' Fortnight opening ceremony.
The recipient is chosen from the international filmmaking community for the innovative qualities, courage and independent bent of his/her mind in their work.
Werner Herzog was felicitated with the award last year. Past winners include Jia Zhangke, Jane Campion, Jim Jarmusch, Clint Eastwood, Alain Resnais among others.
