The Metropolitan Police's counter-terror unit said its has circulated "specific advice" to churches across the UK amid fears of a similar attack in the UK.
"Following recent events in France, we are reiterating our protective security advice to Christian places of worship and have circulated specific advice today. We are also taking this opportunity to remind them to review their security arrangements as a precaution," said Neil Basu, Scotland Yard's Indian-origin deputy assistant commissioner.
Father Jacques Hamel was murdered in the church of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray in Normandy, France, yesterday by two so-called "ISIS soldiers".
"While the threat from terrorism remains unchanged at severe, we urge the public to be vigilant," Basu added.
Britain's heightened state of security comes asimages threatening attacks in London and other major world capitals were reportedly posted on Telegram, a messaging app used by extremists.
