SCR earned Rs 945.47 crore in January 2015 from freight traffic against Rs 699.29 crore last year.
The rise is on the account of significant growth of 7.40 per cent in freight loading, with the Zone carrying 10.59 Million Tonnes (MTs) of freight as compared to 9.86 MTs in the month of January 2014.
"In the process, SCR's originating goods earnings and loading surpassed the Railway Boards target too," according to an SCR release today.
The cumulative loading during April 2014 to the end of January 2015 has shown a growth of 9.7 per cent. The Zone carried 90.35 MTs of freight as compared to 87.8 MTs during the corresponding period of the last year, it said.

Coal contributes to 55 per cent of the total freight loading. The loading of coal has surged to 51.17 MT by the end of January 2015, signifying a growth of 4.46 MT (9.5 per cent) compared to 46.71 MT loaded during the same period of last year.
The earnings from passenger sector were Rs 2,562.88 crore, generating an incremental passenger revenue of Rs 362 crore by the end of January, 2015 signifying a growth of 16.5 per cent in comparison to the passenger earnings of Rs 2,240 crore in the same period of last financial year, the release added.
