Improved maintenance practices, maximising rolling stock utilisation, close monitoring of running of trains, rationalisation of operational practices, have been instrumental for registering the performance, an official release said.
The freight earnings till the end of February, 2015 grew to Rs 8,438.40 crore, an increase of 26 per cent as compared to Rs 6,708 crore against corresponding period last fiscal.
During the period under discussion, freight earnings constituted around 72 per cent of the gross earnings of the Zone, it said.
The earnings from passenger transportation went up from Rs 2,418 crore to Rs 2,805 crore, registering a 16 per cent growth during the period, the release added.
