SCR to give priority to create infra facilities

The South Central Railway (SCR) will give a top priority to creating infrastructural facilities to strengthen safety and to increase the line and terminal capacities so as to enable running of more number of passenger and freight trains, a senior official said here today.
SCR General Manager P K Srivastava conducted a high-level works review meeting with all principal heads of departments and divisional railway managers from all six divisions of SCR through video-conferencing at Rail Nilayam here.
During this meeting, Srivastava reviewed the status of ongoing developmental works on SCR, especially the progress of works related to traffic facilities, track renewals, developing new passenger terminals, ROBs/ RUBs, elimination of unmanned level crossings, electrical, signal and telecom works, improving passenger amenities and staff amenities etc., a SCR release said.
"At present, there are around 637 major developmental works worth Rs 5,490 crore under progress under various plan categories," it said.
The GM monitored the physical and financial progress of these works and the utilisation of allotted funds so far in the current financial year 2014-15.
In view of the resource constraints, he emphasised on prioritising the sanctioned works and speeding up the critically important and last-mile projects to bring about tangible results, the release said.

In addition, the GM also reviewed the proposals submitted by the divisions and various departments for major works to be sanctioned for the next fiscal 2015-16.
Keeping in view the huge backlog of the previously sanctioned works, the GM stressed the need to finalise only those proposals which provide quick results in enhancing the traffic handling capacities and in improving amenities needed by passengers.
Some of the works highlighted by Srivastava for their submission to Railway Board for new sanctions include the development of new passenger terminals at Moula Ali and Nagulapalli to ease out the present congestion at Secunderabad Junction and provision of CCTV surveillance cameras with central monitoring system at all MMTS stations in the city.
This will enable for strengthening security and monitoring cleanliness activities besides elimination of unmanned level crossings through manning / subways / diversion roads for enhanced safety, the release added.
