An organisation claiming to work for the welfare of the Rajput community has demanded an end to caste-based reservation and asked state governments to clear their stand on the issue.
Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena president Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi said reservations in education and jobs should be for the economically weak.
"We want the end of existing caste-based reservation. Instead, economically weaker sections (EWS) among all castes should be given reservations in education and employment," Gogamedi told reporters here.
"All state governments, including Madhya Pradesh, should clarify whether they want to provide reservation on the basis of economic conditions or not," he added.
He further claimed that benefits of 10 per cent reservation provided by the Centre to EWS among the general category was not reaching those it was intended for.
"The benefit of reservations should be given to people of all classes whose annual family income is less than Rs 8 lakh," he said.
