Addressing a press conference, MPCC president Manikrao Thakre said the Government Resolution (GR) of 2006, which did not have income limit criteria for SC and ST students and limit of Rs 4.5 lakh for VJNT, Special backward classes and OBC be retained.

According to him, as per the 2006 GR, SC, ST students, whose annual family income was more than Rs two lakh, were given tuition and examination fees. While students, whose family income was less than Rs two lakh, can avail scholarships as per the central government scheme.

Last week, the state cabinet had decided to discontinue with the 100 per cent waiver in tuition fees and examination fees despite opposition from Congress cabinet ministers like Varsha Gaikwad and Nitin Raut.

Thakre said the proposal was moved by the Higher and Technical Education Department, which is held by the NCP.
