SDMC for PPP to keep public toilets clean
Press Trust of India New Delhi Admitting that its sanitation staff has been unable to keep the toilets in market areas clean, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation today decided to involve Resident Welfare Associations and Market Associations under Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) scheme for the task.
As of now, the Department of Environmental Management services (DEMS) has the responsibility to clean and maintain the toilet blocks. "On account of heavy foot falls in these markets the sanitation staff sometimes find it difficult to maintain the toilets properly," the official proposal said.
According to this, it will be the responsibility of RWA or RMA (Resident Market Association) to carry out day-to-day maintenance and all such cost shall be borne by them.
"They are allowed to collect nominal usage," it added. The title of the interest, ownership and the right of display of advertisement or hoarding inside or outside the toilet complex will be with SDMC.
