SDMC launches sanitation drive ahead of festival

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has kicked off a special sanitation drive ahead of the festive season, the civic body said today.
The SDMC has started the programme in its all four zones which focuses on cleaning of urinals, toilets of schools, dhaloghars (garbgae dumps), backlanes.
The Municipal Commissioner Manish Gupta has directed sanitary inspectors and assistant sanitary inspectors to do regular inspection and ensure cleanliness in their respective areas.
The corporation has also installed display boards at various beat locations which have the names and phone numbers of safai karamcharies (sanitation workers), sanitary inspector and assistant sanitary inspector, the municipal body said in a statement.
The commissioner has also directed the officials of Department of Environment Management Service (DEMS) to visit the field and make sure that all the sanitary works were done properly.
Gupta said that there was zero-tolerance approach on the issue of sanitation.
"We have started special sanitation programme in ward no 165 in Vasant Vihar. Desilting work is also initiated in Moti Bagh Market. Special emphasis is being laid on the cleaning of urinals in ward no 172. In Tagore Garden area, posters are being removed from the walls," he said.
Gupta said that citizens can register their complaints regarding sanitation at our control room.
