The BJP-led SDMC House today proposed a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 for its mayor and Rs 10,000 for other councillors, saying the existing remuneration was "not sufficient" in meeting work-related expenses.
The newly-elected House, after the April MCD polls, also proposed to hike meeting allowances.
The proposal however, will have to get a nod from the Delhi government or Lt Governor to come into effect.
At present, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) councillors are not paid any salary. They are, however, paid Rs 300 per day for participation in meetings of the corporation, with a ceiling of Rs 3,000 per month.
As per the resolution passed by the SDMC, the mayor, the deputy mayor, chairman of the standing committee, leader of the house and leader of opposition are proposed to be given a monthly honorarium of Rs 15,000 each.
The same for other councillors was proposed to be Rs 10,000 per month.
The meeting allowances for all councillors was proposed to be hiked to Rs 1,000 per meeting.
Besides, Rs 6,000 as stationery charge, Rs 5,000 for computer operator and Rs 5,000 on refreshments have also been proposed by the civic body.
