Twenty students of a municipal school in the national capital, interacted with Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, during his visit to the country, the South Delhi Mayor said today.
"He (Prince Charles) was to visit an SDMC school in Lajpat Nagar-III, but owing to its closure in the wake of air pollution in the capital city, he couldn't.
"So, these students were taken to the British Council, where they met him during another programme yesterday," Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said.
Britain's Prince Charles had arrived in India on November 8 on a two-day visit to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), that will be held next year in the UK.
The prince was accompanied by his wife Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, during the visit, which is a part of their 10-day tour of four nations -- Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and India.
The mayor said that the school in Lajpat Nagar is being run in association with a UK-based NGO, ARK, under the school quality enhancement programme (SQEP).
"Children of these schools speak good English. SQEP is currently being implemented in 30 SDMC schools," she said.
The programme which was initiated by the South Delhi Municipal Corporations with the education alliance in 2015, now caters to over 6,000 children, the civic body said.
