The principal of an SDMC school in Kapashera where a five-year-old child drowned in a septic tank has been suspended following a preliminary inquiry by the civic body.
"The principal of SDMC school Number 2 in Kapashera, Rekha Kakkar, has been suspended following a preliminary inquiry after nursery student Ankit Kumar drowned in a septic tank in the school on January 27," said a senior SDMC official.
SDMC authorities had ordered a probe into the incident by the civic body's Additional Commissioner (education), Rajesh Pathak.
Inquiries by police and civic officials suggested that though the open septic tank was brought to the notice of school authorities, it still was not covered.
A case of negligence has already been registered in this connection and school staff and the parents of the victim boy have been questioned, said a senior police officer.
Police are probing a similar incident at a private school in Vasant Kunj here.
Divyansh Kakrora, another 6-year-old, drowned in a water reservoir at a private school in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area on January 30.
In the wake of the incident, Delhi government yesterday asked all schools in the city to submit a report to it regarding the safety of their buildings and also decided to form a task-force to verify the arrangements.
