The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will set up a veterinary hospital at Tehkhand in south Delhi to regularise its sterilisation drive to control the population of stray dog in its area.
Leader of the House Subhash Arya in a statement released by the SDMC said the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has also allotted 2000 sqm land to the municipal body for construction of the hospital.
Arya said there are around 5.5 lakhs stray dogs in Delhi and the SDMC was doing its efforts to control the number of stray dog in its areas.
We have provided adequate vaccination of rabies in our hospitals, he said.
Arya claimed that in comparison to North and East Delhi Corporations, the SDMC has sterilised almost 15,000 dogs, whereas NDMC and EDMC have done the sterilisation of nearly 6,000 and 6,500 dogs respectively.
He said in order to control stray dog population in Delhi and thereby controlling the incidences of deadly disease rabies, the corporation has been running the programme of sterilisation and immunisation of stray dogs through NGOs in accordance to the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) rules 2001.
