Police today continued their search to arrest the assailants behind the murder of a man who was beaten to death for allegedly protesting bursting of fire crackers on the night of Kali Puja in North 24 Parganas.
Pintu Biswas was beaten up with iron rods, bricks and bamboo sticks in the presence of several people at a puja pandal in Ashok Nagar area on Saturday night for allegedly protesting against the bursting of noisy fire crackers.
He was declared brought dead after he was rushed to the hospital following the incident.
Additional Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Mukherjee, however, said the killing seemed to be an outcome of old rivalry and the police was probing into this angle.
In an FIR lodged with the police, Biswas' wife has named six accused, out of which two were arrested yesterday and sent to four-day police custody.
