A joint search operation was carried out today by police and army in Tibri cantonment area here in Punjab but authorities insisted that it was not done because of "rumour" about suspicious movement of 4-5 men.
Gurdaspur's Dinanagar Police Station had come under terror attack in July last year and 7 policemen, including an SP, were killed in a 12-hour gunbattle.
"A search operation was conducted around the Tibri cantonment area," Gurdaspur SSP Jasdeep Singh said.
Security personnel including SWAT commandoes were involved in the search operation, he said.
During the operation, which was led by Punjab police ASP (Dinanagar) Varun Sharma, the security personnel checked the antecedents of people near the army cantonment area.
"We also checked Gujjars living near the Tibri cantonment area," said SSP.

Police scotched reports which suggested that the operation was conducted after 4-5 people were seen who were moving in a suspicious manner. "It (sighting of suspicious men) was all rumour," SSP said.
He said nothing suspicious was found in the operation.
However, he said that the whereabouts of two persons who were found during the search operation were being verified by the police.
A few days back, a massive search operation was conducted jointly by Punjab, Himachal Pradesh police and army in neighbouring district Pathankot after a local resident had claimed to have spotted four to five armed men who were roaming around suspiciously.
Tibri cantonment area came to limelight in January when a massive search operation was conducted here after the terror attack at Pathankot airforce base.
