Replying to a question on vacant positions on the RBI Board, Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar said: "At present, 10 positions of non-official directors on Central Board of Reserve Bank are vacant."
The vacancies arose at different times upon completion of tenure of directors, he said, adding RBI has informed the government that there has been no delay in filling up senior positions from deputy general managers to executive directors.
"The Search Committee constituted for recommending persons to be appointed as non-official directors on the central/local board of RBI has already recommended suitable candidates against existing vacancies," Gangwar said.
On asked about progress on selecting maximum women, he said promotions are on the basis of merit/policy laid down by RBI, which does not mandate any prescriptions regarding selection of maximum/minimum number of a fixed percentage of women to these positions.
The Central Board of the Reserve Bank has official full time members consisting of the Governor and not more than four deputy governors.
