Without providing specific details, he said the Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports has recommended a proposal to set up an airport in Alwar, Rajasthan. Alwar is not part of NCR.
To a query on whether a second airport in NCR would be set up, Sharma replied in the affirmative.
"The Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports has recommended to the Ministry of Civil Aviation the proposal of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Ltd (DMICDC) for setting up of a greenfield airport at Kotkasim Tehsil in Alwar district, Rajasthan," the Minister of State for Civil Aviation said in a written reply.
Sharma said necessary details regarding project cost, financing, schedule of the project and implementation are worked out by the airport promoter and submitted at "in-principle approval stage".

"The proposal has not reached that stage," he said and added that the stage for assessing the air traffic potential has also not been reached.
Last month, Sharma had said the government has approved setting up a second airport in NCR.
"It was decided by the government on June 26 that another airport has to be set up in the national capital region in the future as Delhi airport would be choked by that time.
