Second phase of Rengali project to be completed in 2021

Odisha government today said it would complete the work of the second phase of the Rengali Irrigation project ahead of the schedule, official sources said.
The Rs 2200 crore irrigation project being built with Rs 1700 crore loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has been advanced by six months till now and it will be completed in 2021 against the schedule time of completion in 2023, said Water Resource secretary P K Jena.
Jena said this after Chief Secretary A P Padhi reviewed progress of the Rengali Left Canal Irrigation project. While JICA has extended loan of Rs 1700 crore, the state government will pump about Rs 520 crore for the project which will irrigate about 39,416 hectare of land spread over three districts.
The districts which will be benefited from the project were: Jajpur, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal. The Rengali Left Canal was about 71.31 km.
Of the targeted 39,416 hectare land to be irrigated, comprising 5,788 hectare of Bhuban branch canal system, 8,110 hectare of Sukinda branch canal system, 6,640 hectare of Barapada branch canal system, 13,195 hectare of Korei branch canal system, another 5,633 hectare of land can be irrigated when the project gets fully completed.
