Second Tulip garden to come up in J-K

In an effort to rejuvenate the floriculture sector in the Valley, Jammu and Kashmir government has planned to set up a new Tulip garden in the Anantnag district, a second in the state.
"Central government has sanctioned Rs 22 crore for development of Tulip Garden spread over 471 kanals (23.55 hectares) of land in Anantnag on the pattern of Cheshmashahi Tulip Garden," Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Minister for Floriculture said.
Cheshmashahi Tulip garden, largest Tulip garden in Asia, is the first of its kind to be set up in the state. It is spread over an area of about 12 hectares.
"Government is making every effort to rejuvenate floriculture sector in the Valley. Efforts are also being made to make health resorts, tourist centres attractive by way of developing parks and gardens at tourist places across the state which will increase the influx of tourists and generation of employment opportunities," Sayeed said yesterday.
He was addressing a seminar organised by the Department of Floriculture in the Emporium Lawns here.
The minister said the department would be streamlined on modern scientific lines by introducing latest scientific technology and techniques.
He asked the Director Floriculture to set up two training centres for the departmental gardeners to train them in latest floriculture techniques.
The minister was informed that the department generates revenue of Rs 5 crores annually.
