A section of the airport road in Srinagar will be closed due to construction of a flyover, prompting the authorities to announce today a traffic management plan for smooth movement of vehicles on the route.
"We are closing a section of the airport road from Tulsi Bagh area to Rambagh due to the construction of the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover which is scheduled to be completed by August 2016," Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah told reporters here.
Shah said the authorities have come up with a traffic management plan to facilitate smooth movement of the traffic on the vital route.
He sought cooperation of the people for the smooth traffic management, saying after the construction of the flyover, traffic flow would ease on the route and the travel time would also be reduced.
"There would be some difficulties but I want to assure the people that they will not be allowed to suffer," he said.
According to the plan, there would not be any diversions for the traffic plying from Rambagh towards Jehangir Chowk, while the vehicles moving in the opposite direction would have to take a diversion near Bakshi Stadium towards Jawahar Nagar and take the bund route to reach Rambagh, he said.
He said airport bound vehicles could also take Batmaloo-Tangpora bypass route to reach Hyderpora.
The work on the 3.9 km flyover commenced on September 2013, causing tremendous hardships to the people due to massive and frequent traffic jams.
A total of 225 shopkeepers have been affected due to the construction of the Rs 352 crore flyover and the government has assured their rehabilitation.
